Halal Select Snacks is the only candy company in the USA that has a mission statement to make candy that Muslim kids can enjoy.

The company was founded in 2000 based on a business plan project from Wayne State University, and shortly thereafter introduced its first product The Halal Crispy Treats. Then later in 2004, Halal Select Snacks came out with their second product The American Halal Marshmallows.

Many Muslims in the USA used to eat regular Marshmallows in the 1980s. Back then, most Muslims did not know that marshmallows contain an animal product.

In the 1990′s, companies starting disclosing more and more the details of their ingredients and Muslims all around became more informed about the Haram (forbidden) ingredients in US grocery stores.

So after a whole decade of marshmallow-free barbeques, Ratib the founder decided to satisfy his marshmallow cravings by starting his own company that makes marshmallows and rice crispy treats.

One major challenge he faced was guaranteeing Muslim consumers that our marshmallow products were truly Halal. This was solved with the use of fish gelatin, which removes all doubt compared to using beef gelatin.
