Malaysia announces list of Halal-certified hotels for Ramadan

The Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) has released a list of 22 hotels and resorts that have been Halal certified for breaking of fast or iftar events during the month of Ramadan. They have also informed 34 foreign dignitaries and trade attaches of the said list.

Jakim Director General Datuk Wan Mohamad Sheikh Abdul Aziz said they have issued a circular to all representatives of Islamic states through their embassies and high commissions beginning yesterday.

“We have informed the embassies and have requested their cooperation to acknowledge that only Jakim and the State Islamic Departments (JAIN) are the only bodies recognized by the government to issue Halal certification in Malaysia,” he said in a statement today.

A total of 22 hotels dan 51 kitchens in and around Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya have been Halal certified as of August 9 2010.
